The main advantages of OLAP cubes ...Thanks, Grand.

The main advantages of OLAP cubes are that they are consistently fast and provide a meaningful metadata layer (dimensional) that is more user friendly that the standard tabular form.

The main advantage of ElastiCubes over OLAP cubes is that they provide the same thing without having to build a data warehouse, aggregation tables or data marts. You could build a data warehouse if you want to, but you don't have to. And that changes everything, from top to bottom.

MDX is only useful when OLAP cubes exist. The point of this article is to question whether OLAP is completely out-dated.

EladElad Israelihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14039349385755633029noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8489991802309187017.post-83428597126760804542011-10-30T01:17:29.111-07:002011-10-30T01:17:29.111-07:00Thanks for a very interesting article about all BI...Thanks for a very interesting article about all BI alternatives.
But you only give a hint about WHY traditional OLAP / data warehouse solutions are that prohibitively expensive companies out of Fortune 500.

Do you believe OLAP TCO is high due to cost of ETL / star schema challenges? Or due to a lack and a cost of MDX professionals?
-SSAS OLAP can be built very effectively using snowflake schema too: http://jesseorosz.wordpress.com/2008/05/28/star-vs-snowflake-in-olap-land/
-Lack of MDX professional can be solved with LINQ to SSAS OLAP cubes:
SSAS Entity Framework Provider , meaning that most .NET developers can write LINQ queries.
-If that is about data integration complexity of ETL, how exactly can ElastiCube make that part be cheaper?Grandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04378957399156940434noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8489991802309187017.post-43648853784283241382010-10-26T09:34:16.049-07:002010-10-26T09:34:16.049-07:00KokKeong,

They can't be fairly compared to ElastiCube, which is database technology that functions as a centralized repository which replaces traditional data warehouses and OLAP cubes combined.

I will definitely consider talking about Corda's technology and products in the future.

Thanks for your comment.Elad Israelihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14039349385755633029noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8489991802309187017.post-80949153791809189822010-10-26T06:35:18.644-07:002010-10-26T06:35:18.644-07:00Hi Elad,
